Catherine Chanter's genre defying debut novel The Well was released by Canongate in hardback in March this year, and in paperback on September 3, generating a huge amount of buzz online and in bookshops alike.

Part literary thriller, part dystopia and part family drama, The Well follows the story of Ruth, her husband Mark and their grandson Lucien as they face isolation and the sinister influence of a cult after they move to their dream countryside home. Tackling themes of responsibility, spirituality and motherhood, The Well is a fast-paced, sensuous and intelligent novel that thoroughly engages the reader and has gained praise from publications including The Guardian, The Independent and The Telegraph, along with a slew of rave Goodreads reviews, a place in the Richard and Judy Book Club and comparisons to Margaret Atwood and AS Byatt. Chanter, who works in education and adolescent mental health care, started writing her second novel before The Well was published and also works on poetry and short stories - she's sure to be an interesting and innovative voice in the literary community for years to come.
